Known for his aggressive fighting style and knockout power, he earned the nickname “The Manassa Mauler.” In 1919, Dempsey reached the pinnacle of his career by defeating reigning champion Jess Willard in a match that lasted less than four rounds. This win solidified Dempsey’s status as the first Native American heavyweight Champion of the World and catapulted him into the spotlight of boxing fame.
